97-year-old rescued from Nepal floods described as 'a warrior'

Following her extraction from flood debris in Nepal, a 97-year-old woman is currently recuperating in the hospital, according to her medical team.

Dipak Bohara, the great-nephew of Guna Maya Bohara, informed BBC Nepali that his great-aunt appeared like a triumphant combatant returning from battle.

It took four hours to extract Ms. Bohara from the wreckage of her care residence.

Mr. Bohara had traveled from Kathmandu specifically to aid in the rescue of his great-aunt.

Hundreds of fatalities have been officially confirmed after Wednesday's flash floods, which experts believe were set off by a glacial collapse in the Himalayan region bordering Tibet.

China has issued a warning about a "high risk" that a newly formed lake, which emerged after a recent landslide near the Nepal-Tibet frontier, could overflow its boundaries and cause a subsequent flood downstream.

This caution follows Wednesday's lethal flash flood in the same vicinity, which scientists attribute to a mountain glacier disintegrating into a river.

The BBC observed widespread damage on the route leading from Kathmandu, Nepal's capital, to Trishuli, which is one of the areas most severely affected by flooding near the Tibetan border.

In addition to ambulances, hearses were also observed along this route, where rescue personnel stated that entire villages had been swept away by the floodwaters.

On Thursday night and into early Friday morning, sky-watchers worldwide observed a lunar eclipse that was almost total.

A rare 'Blood Moon' was visible in certain global locations, occurring when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align in the night sky.

This event comes just weeks after millions of individuals witnessed the most significant solar eclipse in nearly three decades.

The Nepal-Tibet border region has been ravaged by floods, leading to the destruction of towns and the washing away of bridges.
