A railway crossing in Burscough, located in West Lancashire, was the site of an incident that occurred shortly after 3:00 PM BST.

According to British Transport Police (BTP), a man inside the van involved tragically passed away at the location, while two individuals travelling on the train from Wigan Wallgate to Southport sustained minor injuries.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police indicated that investigations are currently underway to ascertain the complete details surrounding the event.

A significant emergency response was deployed, involving numerous police, fire, and ambulance units at the scene and in adjacent agricultural areas.

Members of the emergency services were observed assisting passengers as they disembarked from the train.

The operator, Northern, warned of substantial disruption, stating that all rail lines were impassable due to the incident occurring between Wigan Wallgate and Southport.
