Chip-making giant Nvidia announced another significant surge in its sales figures, driven by the ongoing global push to develop artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

The company revealed on Wednesday that its second-quarter earnings reached $96 billion (£71 billion), representing more than double the income generated during the corresponding period last year. Furthermore, it anticipates revenues of $108 billion in the upcoming quarter.

CEO Jensen Huang remarked in his prepared statement that artificial intelligence has reached its critical turning point, adding that the development of infrastructure is progressing with full momentum.

These financial results surpassed the projections made by Wall Street analysts, leading to a 4.7% increase in Nvidia's share price during after-hours trading.

The company's data centre division alone contributed $89 billion during this timeframe, marking a 117% year-over-year increase, which highlights the extensive reliance of the industry on Nvidia's hardware.

Virtually every major technology corporation developing AI tools and supporting infrastructure, such as Amazon, Meta, Google, and Microsoft, utilizes Nvidia's specialized chips for these purposes.

Financial commentators indicated that the strong performance underscores Nvidia's sustained upward trajectory.

Matt Britzman, a senior equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, characterized the results as "another phenomenal performance," pointing out that both revenue and profits exceeded preliminary estimates.

He stated that the projected outlook for the next quarter suggests revenues will comfortably exceed $110 billion.

Nvidia's increasing financial power has also redefined its position within the tech sector.

It has become a financial supporter for companies that depend on its processors, providing investment to entities such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX, thereby assisting in the expensive endeavor of building AI infrastructure.

Its financial achievements and advanced processors are now central to the AI boom, powering the crucial data centers that train and operate artificial intelligence models.

The high demand for this computational power has helped transform Nvidia into the world's most valuable enterprise, boasting a market capitalization surpassing $5 trillion.

Although competition is beginning to emerge from customers developing their own processors and from more affordable Chinese suppliers, the latest figures suggest these challenges are currently limited.

With approximately 40% of the U.S. stock market valuation concentrated in ten companies heavily invested in AI, Nvidia's financial health has implications far beyond the confines of Silicon Valley.
