Right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos deported from US to UK

The British right-wing political commentator, Milo Yiannopoulos, has been removed from the United States after being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Yiannopoulos, who is 41 years old and previously worked as an editor for Breitbart News and as a political advisor to rapper Kanye West, was expelled on Friday, as confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

A spokesperson for the DHS informed the BBC that Yiannopoulos, described as "an unauthorized foreign national from the United Kingdom," had been returned "to his native country."

The individual, who refers to himself as a provocateur, once declared himself "the internet's most fabulous supervillain" and has advocated for more stringent immigration controls in the US. Detractors accuse him of spreading hateful rhetoric.

Yiannopoulos, who spent his childhood in Kent, southern England, was taken into custody on August 27th upon his arrival at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

The DHS stated that he first entered the US in May 2019 and subsequently "chose to remain beyond his authorized period, thereby violating our nation's statutes."

He has previously expressed approval of ICE operations, last year advocating for "complete legal protection for ICE agents while performing their duties."

In a social media post from 2025, he wrote that it was essential to deport millions of people, stating that without this, nothing else would matter.

Yiannopoulos also publicly supported instant deportation for anyone unable to demonstrate their legal presence in the US.

During the 2016 election, Yiannopoulos was an early supporter of Donald Trump, even headlining a "Gays for Trump" event at the Republican National Convention that year.

Although the commentator has since criticized the current US president, he continues to endorse his policies. On X in March this year, he posted that Trump had "lost his way, influenced by foreign interests."

Yiannopoulos has frequently generated controversy with his remarks regarding transgender individuals, Muslims, Black Lives Matter, feminists, and gay people, despite identifying as gay himself. He now describes himself as "ex-gay."

In 2020, he assisted West with the rapper's unsuccessful presidential campaign. He also worked for Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former Republican congresswoman who later had a falling out with Trump and became a strong critic before resigning from her position.

Laura Loomer, a far-right commentator and Trump supporter who has had disagreements with Yiannopoulos, claimed responsibility for his apprehension by ICE, announcing on X on Friday evening that his flight back to the UK had already departed.

She posted that this disruptive foreign operative was already outside the United States and that DHS had informed her he would "NEVER be permitted to re-enter the United States."

In 2017, he was barred from speaking at CPAC, a US conservative conference also attended by Trump, after a video surfaced in which Yiannopoulos appeared to condone paedophilia. He subsequently apologized and resigned from Breitbart.

He denied the accusations, explaining that his comments were in reference to his own childhood experiences.

Yiannopoulos was once frequently associated with the alt-right, a diverse movement that openly opposes political correctness and feminism, and includes neo-Nazis and white supremacists among its members.
